Baptist's Website Wins eHealthcare Leadership Award

Baptist Health Care’s Web site, eBaptistHealthCare.org, received an eHealthcare Leadership Award of Distinction at the Tenth Annual Healthcare Internet Conference held in December.

The award recognizes Baptist’s inviting, user-friendly Web site design. The honor was presented by eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, an Internet resource published by Health Care Communications of Rye, N.Y.

There were more than 1,100 entries in 12 award categories. Baptist’s was among the 220 sites to receive recognition in this year’s eHealthcare Leadership Awards competition. Judges looked at how sites compared with others in their organization’s classification.

"What’s clearly evident this year is the number of outstanding sites," says Mark Gothberg, editor of eHealthcare Strategy & Trends. "It was particularly difficult for judges to choose among competing sites, especially in such hotly contested categories as best design."

More organizations are investing in e-business for functions such as employee recruitment and physician referrals and appointments, Gothberg said. Baptist Health Care is a prime example. Its site includes a career center that allows job-seekers to review open positions at any Baptist Health Care entity and then apply online for any of those positions. The site also allows users to view profiles of Baptist Health Care physicians and make appointments with them online. Patients can pay bills online and register for e-mail reminders when mammograms and other screenings are due.

The site features language conversion software that translates from English to any of five languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. It translates hundreds of pages created just for Baptist Health Care, including such features as "Find a Physician," "News and Events," "Careers" and "Health Calendar."

A mechanism for sending flowers, gifts and greetings to Baptist Hospital patients is another feature of eBaptistHealthCare.org. So is an online nursery featuring photos of newborns.

Packed with information, eBaptistHealthCare.org lists health-related support groups, special classes, programs and seminars, and a detailed calendar of events. It also links users to other Baptist Health Care Web sites such as GetHealthyPensacola.com, TheAndrewsInstitute.com and BaptistLeadershipInstitute.com.
