Living with Leg Pain?
A Simple Screening Can Help
Determine If You Have PVD
Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) afflicts tens of
thousands of older Americans. A fast and painless screening
can help determine if you suffer from PVD a condition caused by blocked blood
vessels in the legs. If you suffer from leg pain that appears when walking or exercising
and disappears after a few minutes of rest, you may have peripheral vascular disease.
Other symptoms include coldness, numbness or tingling in the lower legs and feet and
sores that wont heal on the lower extremities.
Although peripheral vascular disease can occur at any age, it is most common in men
and women 50 or older. Many people simply live with their leg pain, assuming that it is a
normal part of aging. But left untreated, it can make walking difficult and result in ulcers
that, in severe cases, can develop gangrene and lead to amputation.
If you suffer from leg pain, ask your family doctor about a PVD screening or call Baptist
HealthSource at 434-4080.
